The Kyrgyz som, KGS, is a means of payment in the state of the Kyrgyz Republic, located in Central Asia. It was put into circulation as a national currency on May 10, 1993 instead of the Russian ruble, after the country left the USSR. The official issuer and regulator is the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
