The Egyptian pound, EGP, is the Egypt Arab Republic currency, located in North Africa and the Sinai Peninsula. The currency was put into circulation in 1834 and replaced the Turkish piastres. Informal names are lira or guinea. The coin has circulation in Egypt all regions , as well as in the Gaza Strip — the territory of Palestine, with which Egypt is building diplomatic relations.

How is EGP exchanged?

The Egyptian pound can formally be divided into 100 piasters, but less than 25 piasters coins are actually excluded from circulation. In Egypt, banknotes are accepted in 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 pounds denominations.
