The Burundi franc, BIF, is the official means of payment in the East African state of the Republic of Burundi. It was introduced in 1964 shortly after the country gained independence from Belgium, replacing the currency of the Belgian Congo and the francs of Rwanda and Burundi. The issuer and regulator of the currency is the Bank of the Republic of Burundi.

How to change BIF?

Formally, the Burundian franc has a split into 100 centimes, which due to inflation are currently not used. The country issues coins in denominations of 50, 10, 5 and 1 francs and money bills worth 10000, 5000, 2000, 500 and 100 francs.
